Lions

History:
The motive for creating the drawing was a story from the worldwide famous book of ancient Indian fairy tales and parables Panchatantra. King Amara-shakti had three lazy stupid sons. To awaken their minds, the sage Vishnu Sharma was invited to the court, who wrote 5 books of Panchatantra, to teach the princes the science of proper behavior.

The first and second books «The Separation of Friends» and 'The Gaining of Friends' tell about the lord of forest animals - the lion of Pingalaka.

Heroes in Panchatantra are animals and birds whose morals are a copy of human beings.

The work uses the illustration of 'The Lion and the Lioness' from the ancient oriental manuscript «Manaf al-Hayawan» («About the Benefits of Animals») stored in the Morgan Library in New York.
